Our Approach

Through our play based approach we provide a secure and caring environment so children feel accepted, can grow in confidence and independence, extending their knowledge and interest in their local community around about them.

Our learning environment, events and activities are designed to help children:

  • Build self esteem and independence

  • Develop physical and social skills

  • Care for each other and their environment

  • Understand that everyone is different

  • Make choices and decisions

  • Develop language, numeracy and literacy skills

  • Respond positively to challenges

Curriculum

Te Whāriki Teaching

Te Whariki is a curriculum for all Early Childhood Centres in New Zealand and is seen as a whariki or mat, which is woven from the principles, aims and goals.

How will this benefit your child?

  • Teachers are trained to recognize the strengths, needs and interests of young children and to provide learning opportunities which encourage them to develop at their own pace.

  • Planned events and activities are based on careful observation of children’s play.

  • Individual differences are acknowledged and planned for within the curriculum.

Christian teaching

We use a preschool christian approach created to make a difference in the next generation that we believe is going to last a lifetime.

This is taught daily during a mat time and modelled and woven into free play experiences throughout the day.

The bottom line for all our christian teaching is:

A green card with a white star and colorful text that reads "God Made Me" in purple, pink, and yellow, with a small yellow star and a Kiddu Winks logo at the bottom.
A watercolor background with a white heart-shaped design containing the text "God Loves Me" in large, colorful letters, and a small blue heart with a cross there. The bottom features a colorful logo for Kidddy Winks Christian Kendy.
Colorful poster with text that says "Jesus wants to be my friend forever" and an illustration of a white handprint and a blue handprint with a small green handprint.

Child’s Portfolio

We provide each child with an online & physical portfolio as a record of their time with us at Kiddy Winks.

Portfolios contain a collection of art work, writings, photos and stories about what they are learning. Stories are based on observations by staff and will give reference to the aims and goals of Te Whariki, the Early Childhood curriculum.

Trips

We take the children on regular trips around our local area.  This can be walking trips to the local library or shops, a bus trip to the Botanical Gardens, train trip to a neighbouring playground, or a centre wide trip to extend on learning, ie to Butterfly Creek. We have strict safety standards and all children wear branded Kiddy Winks vests or jackets.
